My Story
I grew up with sports (gymnastics, dance, basketball, volleyball, swimming/diving, etc.) with a special love for figure skating. I didn’t start skating until I was 11 years old, which means, I was not being tracked to be the next Olympic athlete or professional skater, and I was ok with that because the passion and drive I had for this sport was real and I just couldn’t get enough of it.
I had a clear benchmark for success. Land your jumps, spin with at least four revolutions, connect them all together with footwork in a routine, throw in a couple field movements, rinse and repeat.
In my peak throughout high school, I was skating every day over my lunch breaks and after school. I had private coaches for my technical skills (jumps/spins/edgework), my choreography routines, and my dances. I thrived in practice and off-ice training, the pressure was off, and I felt the JOY of the sport.
On competition day or test day, my nerves and fears took over. My whole body would tremble, and when skating is supposed to be smooth, my performances never lived up to showcasing what I was capable of. I never had access or the tools to know how to train my mind, understand my fears and work with my nerves when it mattered most, and I was under pressure to perform.
This ‘stage performance’ fear followed me throughout University and into the corporate world, where speaking up in class, in meetings, taking the stage, my body would react the SAME way, tremble with fear. It wasn’t until I was ready to face this fear head on, understand why it was there before I could see the power in working WITH my emotions.
As I did this work, alongside others, with various coaches myself, I realized how much we all struggle with a version of this. For me, I now take the stage with confidence (ok I still have nerves), but the difference is how I speak to myself. I have learned how to trust myself, believe in the work that I do, my purpose, and I know that what I share matters. I take actions in the face of fear as I move closer to fulfilling my purpose and achieve my version of success.
I bring my experience as an athlete, skating coach, corporate leadership trainer and certified wellness coach together with my desire to help leaders like yourself train your mind, find your inner compass, and get yourself and your team into the performance ZONE when stakes are high, pressure is on and it matters most.
I cannot wait to work with you!
